Are there limits?

Hair Transplants is an exciting field to work in everyday. It is one of the most evolving and cutting edge fields. New limits are reached everyday.

Many surgeons are now doing between 3000-6000 grafts/session. The density has increased from 20 grafts /cm² to 100 grafts / cm², where a few years ago 500-1000 grafts / session was an average surgery. Despite these technical advances, what I find the most enjoyable part is the artistic component. There is no other surgery that requires such a large degree of artistic component on behalf of the surgeon as does hair transplants.

Everyday, new patients come to my office with a completely different look, different ethnicity, and different expectations. Once finished, I view that hair transplant more as an art work that walks out of my office.

This is why I think there are no limits to both our technical achievements, and our artistic skills. Art is a part of nature.

Steroids and Hair Loss

Every week, I see at least one or two patients in my office for consults or for surgery who have used anabolic steroids.

They often describe using the anabolic steroids or steroid-like compounds (eg: clenbuterol) for a six week cycle. They report an incredible amount of hair loss post cycle.

In those patients who have a genetic pre-disposition for hair loss, the results can be devastating. The single episode can activate their gene and the hair loss is rapid and permanent.

Patients who use anabolic steroids post-transplant also can experience severe shock loss. Most of this can be recovered. However, in some cases, the results can be less than ideal.

My advice is always never use anabolic steroids or compounds that have similar effects. This includes products like creatine.

Hair, like the rest of your health is not worth losing for a quick gain in muscle mass. Bulky look is not in vogue as it once was. Stay healthy by staying clean.

Celebrity Hair Transplants

What do people in Hollywood want? As we do more and more actors or singers from Hollywood or Europe, it is clear that they do not all want the same hair transplants.

But most of the Hollywood actors do want their temples angles closed, and want the maximum densities possible. They also want the hairline designs to be completely natural. The European actors are a little bit more conservative.

Also, we find the older actors are more conservative than the younger ones.

Some also fall into our repair categories. They had gone to a surgeon years before and now wish to fix up the old work. They are the toughest cases.

But, if you see some of the most popular actors, the hairlines designs are keeping them more and more youthful despite the fact that they are not as young as they look.

Of all things, they hairline design which includes, angling, density placement, design and temple angle closure, is the single most important part of the transplant. This is what attracts most celebrities to the new modern hair transplants.
