Rogaine Topical Solution (minoxidil)
Rogaine was introduced as a new drug for hair growth by the Upjohn Company in 1988. Rogaine is the marketing name for a topical solution with minoxidil in it. This means that it is a rubbing tonic for the balding spot of the head that contains some percentage of the drug minoxidil in it. The original Rogaine came in a two-percent solution. This meant that only two percent of the solution was actually minoxidil. Recently, Rogaine Extra Strength, has received approval from the Food and Drug Administration. In this stronger form of Rogaine, up to five percent of the solution is minoxidil. This version is finding greater acceptability among medical doctors, especially in the case of men. Rogaine is applied by rubbing it on the balding head twice a day, every day. Rogaine is now available over the counter. A normal daily treatment of Rogaine will cost about $30 per month, about $360 per year.
